Pioneers! Call for Applications

Felix Meritis and Humanity in Action are pleased to invite applications for Pioneers—a set of two meetings that will take place in Amsterdam from April 1-3, 2009 and in New York City from November 19-20, 2009.

The sessions will bring together a group of selected Pioneers-today's cutting edge thinkers and entrepreneurs in diverse professional fields-for a transatlantic dialogue into the frontiers of civic engagement and social entrepreneurship in Amsterdam and New York City.

Participants will be young professionals drawn from a broad range of fields including academia, the arts, business, health, education, government, grassroots activism, media and technology. Pioneers will gain knowledge and inspiration from exploring how innovative thinkers from different cities and disciplines are meeting the challenges of urban, social and civic engagement.

The Pioneers will participate in two meetings with recognized experts in Amsterdam and New York City. The sessions will explore several key questions, rooted in the unique histories of both cities.

All expenses related to participation in the two Pioneers Sessions will be covered, including all expenses related to transatlantic travel to Amsterdam or New York City.

Requirements
The Pioneers Sessions are open to applications from innovative thinkers and young professionals who live or work in Amsterdam or New York City. Applicants will be selected for their creativity and demonstrated interest in urban, social and civic engagement.

Selection requirements include:
Excellent English-language skills
Applicants must reside or work in Amsterdam or New York City
Applicants must be able to participate in both Pioneers Sessions (April 1-3 in Amsterdam and November 19-20 in New York City) and an orientation session in late March
Applicants should be committed to participating actively in discussions during the Pioneers Sessions and in the building of a transatlantic network that will last beyond the meetings in Amsterdam and New York

Selection
Applications should be submitted through the Pioneers website at www.pioneers.nu before February 17. The selection committee may choose to conduct interviews with applicants. Applicants should be available for interviews during the week of February 23-27. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee's decision in the first week of March.
