Open Monumentendag Amsterdam 2011 in Felix Meritis groot succes
Met een twintigtal rondleidingen zowel overdag als 's avonds, en een speciaal avondprogramma, trok het monumentale grachtenpand Felix Meritis op zaterdag jl. een kleine duizend bezoekers.
Er waren 's avonds oud-Felixianen uitgenodigd die onder grote belangstelling hun persoonlijke herinneringen openbaar maakten. Zo liet Steve Austen, mede-oprichter van het Shaffy Theater in 1968, films zien en muziek horen van Ramses Shaffy en andere artiesten uit deze periode tot de oprichting van het huidige Felix Meritis, Europees Centrum voor Kunst en Cultuur en Wetenschap. Bijzonder was ook de voordracht die Max van den Berg hield, over de decennia die hij voor de Communistische Partij van Nederland heeft gewerkt in het toenmalige hoofdkantoor ‘het Kremlin' in Felix Meritis.
Dr. Huib Zuidervaart verplaatste zich in de tijd dat het genootschap Felix Meritis in 1777 werd opgericht. De heren van het genootschap ontplooiden diverse wetenschappelijke activiteiten, waaronder sterrenkundige waarnemingen op het dak. Hier was het eerste Observatorium van West-Europa gevestigd. In 2013 zal het Observatorium weer open gesteld worden ter gelegenheid van het 225-jarig bestaan van Felix Meritis en de viering van vierhonderd jaar grachten. Op het ovaalvormige dak zal een kunstwerk geïnstalleerd worden waarbij de sterrenhemel en de grachten op fantasievolle wijze met elkaar verbonden worden. Speciaal ontworpen telescopen zullen gericht zijn op prominente gebouwen in de oude en nieuwe stad. Hierop zullen citaten, alleen leesbaar vanaf het Observatorium, zichtbaar zijn.
In de onlangs gerenoveerde en meer dan 220 jaar oude Concertzaal, speelden tijdens Open Monumentendag musici van het EnsembleCaméléon en het Ruysdael Kwartet suites van o.a. Brahms. Een voorproefje van het aanstaande Felix & Muziek seizoen. Met kamermuziek door acht ensembles, drie concertseries en tweeëntwintig concerten, klassiek én modern repertoire, herintroduceert Felix Meritis een oude traditie in de eerste Concertzaal van Nederland.
