Felix & Muziek: Amstel Quartet, Waarom ook niet?
In de monumentale Concertzaal presenteert Felix Meritis de concertserie Felix & Muziek. De onlangs verfraaide Concertzaal heeft een warme akoestiek, geschikt voor onder meer ensembles. Met ditmaal het Amstel Quartet.
De kracht van een saxofoonkwartet: alles is mogelijk. Met zijn democratische werkwijze heeft het Amstel Quartet te maken met de persoonlijkheden van vier kwartetleden en die vormen een nogal eclectisch geheel. De vier saxofonisten spelen alles wat los en vast zit, en liefst gecombineerd in één programma. In de 13 jaar dat het Amstel Quartet op de Nederlandse en buitenlandse podia optreedt, speelde het alles van de vroege renaissance en Bach tot en met Xenakis en Michael Torke. In 2011 gaat het Amstel Quartet nóg een stapje verder met op het programma: de Ring van Wagner in een parafrase van Ring-kenner Gijs Kramers; een door kwartetlid Remco Jak samengestelde suite bestaande uit delen van verschillende symfonieën van drie grote romantische componisten; een nieuw werk van Michael Torke (een gezamenlijke opdracht van het Amstel Quartet en het bevriende Amerikaanse New Century Quartet) en het meest indrukwekkende Nederlandse stuk voor saxofoonkwartet ooit van Tristan Keuris.
