After the Meltdown: The Future of Capitalism and Globalization in the Age of the Twin Crises
Onlangs verscheen het belangwekkende boek After the Meltdown: The Future of Capitalism and Globalization in the Age of the Twin Crises. Hierin betoogt Marc de Vos dat de economische crisis verregaande gevolgen heeft voor de toekomst van de markteconomie, internationale betrekkingen, het kapitalisme en globalisering. Hij laat zien dat de staat als gevolg van de crisis de touwtjes weer stevig in handen neemt. Tijdens zijn betoog zal De Vos pleiten voor een strategische alliantie tussen de VS en de EU in de wereld na de kredietcrisis.
Tijdens het debat spreekt Marc de Vos zich uit over de lange termijneffecten van de wereldwijde recessie. De kredietcrisis heeft zijn ergste piek gehad - maar hoe moet het nu verder met globalisering en kapitalisme? Welke politieke tendensen tekenen zich af als gevolg van de economische crisis en zullen de machtsverhoudingen tussen Europa, de Verenigde Staten en Azië structureel veranderen?
De volgende gasten zullen de Vos van repliek dienen: Marietje Schaake (D66 Lid Europees Parlement), Rens van Tilburg (Innovatieplatform, voorheen werkzaam voor het Europees Parlement voor GroenLinks en als beleidsmedewerker in de Tweede Kamerfractie voor GroenLinks) en Esther-Mirjam Sent (econoom en publicist in o.a. De Volkskrant). Welke toekomst heeft de wereldeconomie en het kapitalisme? En wat is de Nederlandse positie in het spel van machtsverschuivingen tussen de EU, de VS en China? Na het debat krijgt het publiek alle ruimte om met de sprekers in discussie te gaan.
Prof. Marc De Vos is doctor in de rechten aan de Universiteit van Gent en directeur Belgische denktank Itinera. Moderator is Joop Hazenberg (Denktank Prospect).
