Still so much to be done: Challenges for Culture in Europe

The European Festivals Association (EFA) publishes a book on the occasion of Denis de Rougemont's 100th birthday. In 2006 we celebrate the centenary of the birth of Denis de Rougemont, founder of EFA and of other eminent cultural organisations including the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam). He also served EFA as its first year-long president.

EFA invited prominent European cultural scientists, professionals and politicians including Anne-Marie Autissier (Paris VIII University, Institute of European Studies), Frans de Ruiter (Leiden University and Director of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague), Rik Pinxten (Ghent University, Centre for Intercultural Communication and Interaction University), Dr. Volker Hassemer (Spokesperson of the initiative "A Soul for Europe") and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso to look into the meaning of culture, the arts and festivals and their present and future roles in the European integration process from different perspectives: ‘Il reste tant à faire' (So much to be done). This message inherited from Denis de Rougemont himself, is more vivid than ever in the cultural Europe of tomorrow.
