The Globalisation Lectures

After several successful lectures in Felix Meritis by Naomi Klein and Noreena Hertz in 2002, Felix Meritis decided to give more attention to the phenomenon of globalisation, together with Uitgeverij Lemniscaat and de Volkskrant.

The world is getting smaller every day. We fly everywhere, and communicate with each other over great distances. But globalisation has a downside too. Does everybody benefit from globalisation? And are there any negative side-effects? The Globalisation Lectures were created to tackle issues like these.

The First Globalisation Lecture was held at the end of 2002. In 2003, the VPRO/Tegenlicht and NCDO joined the editorial staff of the Globalisation Lectures, and in 2009 Radio Nederland Wereldomroep decided to join the group as well. Since 2002, the editors have organised four lectures each year. During each Globalisation Lecture, prominent figures from around the world, both pro- and anti-globalists, have presented their vision of globalisation to a wide audience. Prior to the lectures a full-page interview with the speaker was placed in the Volkskrant and the newspaper regularly placed the commentators' reactions afterwards. The lectures were recorded by the VPRO and can be accessed through the website of the Globalisation Lecture.
