The sexualization of society: What are we talking about?
Everybody talks about the sexualization of society. But what does this exactly mean? Is all the social excitement about this subject justified? What is the boundary between sex and porn? Are women really influenced so much by the ideals of beauty, or are they easily led into the role of victim? Is it right that the Dutch government interferes in the way that the public domain portrays women as an object of lust? Or must we be beware of being patronized by the government?
Editor-in-chief of the Dutch magazine Opzij Cisca Dresselhuys discusses these matters with Sylvain Ephimenco (journalist, columnist), Arie Boomsma (television presenter), Myrthe Hilkens (editor of the Dutch newspaper De Pers, member of the campaign group ‘Beperkt Houdbaar') and Marli Huijer (philosopher, lecturer Philosophy at The Hague University and senior researcher at the Leiden University).
