The Scanned Human

In the Netherlands the solution to many problems, in health care, the public domain and rising tensions between different ethnic groups, are  being sought in the infringement of civil rights, because that is supposed to ‘work'.  Criticism and objections are ignored because we have ‘nothing to hide, don't we'. However, international and  constitutional law are rarely referred to.

During this symposium Humanistisch Verbond Amsterdam/Amstelland, Haaglanden and Felix Meritis present  a different humanistic view of life. Are we still able to think independently? and read (certain) books or will that turn us into potential suspects? Do we still have the exclusive  right  to our own bodies, our own identity and  consequently our own personal data? Can we still develop as human beings, move around and exchange  ideas with others freely? What remains of our autonomy? And finally, can we still be completely human, when we are systematically obstructed in these matters?

With: Jit Peters (professor State and Government Law, University of Amsterdam), Beate Roessler (Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam), Rop Gonggrijp (hacker and cofounder of XS4ALL), Frans Koenraadt (special professor Forensic psychology Utrecht University and employed at the Willem Pompe Institute), Kathalijne Buitenweg (former MEP), Bart de Koning (author of the book Everything under control (Alles onder controle)) and Auke van Dijk (advisor of superintendent Welten). Moderators: Joyce Hes and Joep Schrijvers
