Stars of Heaven - An Afternoon with Photography, Astronomy and Music
The exhibition First Light: Photography & Astronomy opened in March in Huis Marseille. It combines special historical photographs with spectacular photos taken by well-known telescopes such as the Hubble. An event has been organized in Felix Meritis as part of this event. During this afternoon several guests will delve into the relationship between art (representation) and astronomy.
The programme includes the following guests: Peter Barthel (professor of astrophysics at the University of Groningen), Huib Zuidervaart (Huygens Institute), Rob van Gent (NWO Researcher on Dutch Cartography of the universe/University of Utrecht), Huib Henrichs (astronomer from UvA/VU), Saskia Asser (conservator Huis Marseille). They will speak about such subjects as old maps of the universe and the Felix Meritis observatory. Furthermore, an intriguing "marriage" will take place between astronomy and music. The well-known Grieg Pianoduo (pianists Elles van der Heiden and Siebert Nix) will perform compositions by Huib Henrichs. These pieces of music were inspired by the mysteries of star-spangled skies. After this session, Huis Marseille invites you to the exhibition First Light.
