News from the front: Ives Ensemble - Piano, violin, viola, cello
In the oldest Concert Hall of the Netherlands three ensembles present the concert series News from the Front. This edition, the Ives Ensemble plays the master piece Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello.

Morton Feldman (1926-1987) is one of the titans of American music since 1950. His fascination with the visual arts, particularly the works of Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, Philip Guston and Barnett Newman, found a way into his compositional work.
Feldman's interest in Turkish and Anatolian carpets caused a change in his thinking about form and scale. His works became bigger and longer. This peaked with the Second String Quartet lasting five hours. Commissioned by the Festival Nieuwe Muziek Zeeland (New Music Zealand) in Middelburg in 1987, he wrote his last composition, the eighty-minutes Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello. This work, rarely performed in Dutch concert halls, is a warm and touching farewell to a life cut short.
