Institut Néerlandais, the next 50 years
For 53 years the Institut Néerlandais (IN) has been stimulating cultural exchange between the Netherlands and France. Every year the IN presents a diverse programme in the fields of arts, music, literature, debates, film and language education. From time to time the differences between Dutch and French society and culture play up. This leads to discussions and mutual fascination. The Netherlands is seen as a lab for new ideas and France is known for its rich tradition and heritage.
During this discussion the IN wants to step out of the French context and engage in debate with the Dutch cultural field. The IN has invited a panel of experts to outline the current French-Dutch cultural and social context in which the IN operates. This context will determine the programming of the next few years.
What is the implication of cultural differences, according to Paul Schnabel (The Netherlands Institute for Social Research / SCP) and Fouad Laroui (University of Amsterdam)? Do Claudia Landsberger (Holland Film/Eye Film Institute Netherlands) and Xavier Vandamme (Organisatie Oude Muziek) promote Dutch film and Music differently in France from in the rest of the world? How does Benno Tempel's Gemeentemuseum Den Haag implement his ideas in cooperation with French museums? What are the opportunities and challenges for Dutch culture within the international field? A discussion moderated by Tracy Metz (Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad), with an introduction by Jeanne Wikler (director Institut Néerlandais).
