Forum Amsterdam: The secret of...
Amsterdam is one of the most multicultural cities of Europe. This city can be the ideal lab to develop a challenging vital approach in constant interaction with the many people arriving and departing almost every day, because of the unique fact that 176 nationalities live and work in Amsterdam. The presence of different cultures in the city offers opportunities for residents, business, culture and the government. Culture is of great importance in this process; after all, culture is what provides cohesion in every society. The year 2009 has been declared European Year of Creativity and Innovation in the field of education and culture. Forum Amsterdam: The secret of... offers a preview.
Amsterdam is famous for its hospitality. Almost half of its population consists of people from a varied cultural background. Forum Amsterdam will use the multiculturalism of Amsterdam to analyse success formulae and to unveil the secret of Amsterdam by means of a real exchange of thoughts and ideas.
Enterprising personalities from business and culture and representatives of leading organisations who are actively involved with the society of Amsterdam will share their secret. What is the secret of David Endt (team manager of the Dutch football team Ajax), Jan Benthem (Benthem Crouwel Architects), Roberto Payer (General Manager of the Hilton Hotel Amsterdam), Liselotte de Koning (director of Red Cross, Amsterdam), Haig Balian (director of Artis Zoo), Sarriel Taus (co-founder of the restaurant Fifteen in Amsterdam, Chairman of WK Amsterdam), Rob Wagemans (founder and director of Concrete), and Kai Pattipilohy (founder of Diversion)?
The Dutch historian Herman Beliën (University of Amsterdam) will give an introduction. Frans Timmermans (European Affairs Minister, The Netherlands) will give a lecture about The secret of... Peter Stuyvesant: Amsterdam - New York. During the programme several one-minutes videos specially made for this day by the Sandberg Institute will be screened and the Caspian Hat Dance will give a concert. The day will be opened by Linda Bouws (general director Felix Meritis) and concluded by Frank de Grave (chairman, Board of Trustees Felix Meritis).
Forum Amsterdam: The secret of... is made possible by Rabobank Amsterdam en Omstreken.
