Felix & Sofie: Safety and populism - hand in glove

While statistics show that the country is getting safer, we're growing more afraid. In addition, more citizens feel the government is at bay, whereas the government has been moving more and more into the lives of its citizens. This combination of fear among citizens and a lack of acknowledgement of their fear by the government has led to a phenomenal increase in the popularity of populism.

What can the success of populism tell us about our own society? And can philosophy and history make us understand these seemingly paradoxical trends and possibly provide us with answers to these questions? With (among others) Beatrice de Graaf  (Centre for Terrorism and Contraterrorism, Campus The Hague/University Leiden).
