Felix Meritis lustrum series: New Dutch Academy on authentic instruments
Felix Meritis celebrates two anniversaries in 2008: The building has been in existence for 220 years, and the Felix Meritis society for 230 years. When the building was opened on 31 October 1787, the first activity of the society was an inaugural concert. For a hundred years there was a rich tradition of giving concerts in the Concert Hall. This tradition will be brought back to life. In each concert you will hear something of the rich musical life of the 18th century.
Simon Murphy presents a special programme with the reconstruction of Bach's own cello, an instrument that gives us new insights into the classical chamber music compositions of Bach. New Dutch Academy will play works by Abel, the mentor of Schmitt (first conductor of Felix Meritis, 1788-1791), Bach, Vivaldi, Weiss and Falckenhagen.
With Simon Murphy (cello piccolo), Georgia Browne (flute), Elizabeth Dobbin (soprano), Karl Nyhlin (baroque lute) and Hanna Loftsdottir (cello)
This series is organized in cooperation with Stichting Kamermuziek Amsterdam and made possible by SNS REAAL Fund.
