Elderly people in image and reality
Old age comes with ailments. The older you get, the less social contacts you have and the less active you are. That is, in a nutshell, the image that we have of the elderly. But is it correct?
The Center for Research on Aging (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and the Dutch Newspaper de Volkskrant have carried out research to find the truth behind these prejudices. The results will be presented during this symposium. Representatives from the world of science and everyday life will discuss the results.
In the afternoon writers will talk about the image of the elderly in the newspapers, film, politics, literature, advertising and the visual arts. The day will be concluded by the Dutch writer Marcel Möring.
