Communicating Europe: Dutch Perspectives on EU Enlargement
Who shapes the debate today in the Netherlands on the future of EU enlargement? Twenty policy-makers and TV journalists from the Balkans are coming to take part in a private briefing workshop. This workshop involves senior Dutch political figures, MPs, policy-makers, public intellectuals and journalists. The group are coming to the Netherlands to understand first-hand how changes in the Dutch political landscape affect the Dutch view of the Western Balkans; what lies behind the Dutch policy of ‘strict but fair?' conditionality for future EU enlargement? And how is the famous Dutch Polder model changing? The workshop is part of a series of workshops across Europe engaging a network of the most dynamic figures from the world of politics and the media from seven Western Balkan countries working on their countries' integration into the EU.
The network of Balkans policy-makers and media people includes: Milica Delevic, Head of Serbia's EU Integration Office; Ivan Vejvoda, foreign policy adviser to former Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic; Boris Vujcic, Croatia's Deputy Chief EU negotiator; and Agnesa Rusi, Macedonia's senior negotiator of her country's successful bid to have visa free travel into the EU. The group also include the top journalists working on TV programmes covering European issues in the Balkans. They are now working together on joint programming - a first in the region.
The public debate is cancelled.
