Café Foreign Affairs: The first weekend

In his latest novel The first weekend, Bernhard Schlink offers surprising insights into an emotionally charged period of our history, a time that began with a utopia and ended with murdering terrorists and a country in war. Does The first weekend offer a clearer view of this era than a history written by a historian? Is the writer responsible for a true writing of history? Or is it only a form of art? Are there parallels between the terrorism of the past and today?

Jacco Pekelder (author of Sympathy for the RAF, De Rote Armee Fraktion in the Netherlands, 1970-1980) and Peter Giesen (Dutch daily de Volkskrant) will discuss these and other questions. Moderator: Christoph Buchwald (Cossee Publishers)

Café Foreign Affairs is part of Dare2Connect, a programme of Felix Meritis and SICA.
