Alessandro Baricco: I barbari
The Italian writer Alessandro Baricco will discuss his book I barbari (translated into Dutch as De barbaren) with Frans Timmermans. I Barbari is a collection of his articles in the Italian daily La Repubblica. Technological innovation, social mobility and globalisation put pressure on civilised society.
Is there still a place for inspiration in the modern era? Baricco claims that we must simply realise that the situation is not one of civilisation on one side and barbarism on the other. Today's culture is in a state of mutation; not a clash, but a transition from an old to a new culture is taking place. Baricco will deliver an optimistic plea for the future of our culture.
